1780’s Coats – The Study Book
We decided to make a couple of research books really getting into the nitty gritty details of some of the coats we’ve been studying – particularly showing the inner details of tailoring and cut. The above image is a coat from the Bath Fashion Museum (image used courtesy of the Bath and North West Somerset Council). It has an embroidered detail (der…) down the CF, on the pockets, cuffs and back vents.
This is the back view of the same coat…
The above is a beautiful velvet and the whole of the fabric is supported by a linen layer. This coat has been seriously altered (unless there was a bizarre fashion for shortened tails) and again, this coat is found at the Bath Fashion Museum – images courtesy of the Bath and North West Somerset Council.
