Front View of Breeches

This is the Breeches for the suit SNO.96 – they are made from a woven silk and lined with Linen. We wish we could find silk like this now-a-days – oh for the dream!

We’ve mostly got our images here – a brief description of their characteristics and details. We shall break it down as f

ollows:

– They have a Button Fly
– Pocket Fall look-alike with fly front
– Seat Seam to Crotch = 18 1/2″
– Buttons – Covered and Gently Domed
– 3 x 5/8″ at the Knee
– Buttoned Knee Openings with Straps
– Pockets included in Full Fall at Side Seam – 7 1/2″
– Welt Pkt x 1 on Waistband Yoke
– Opening at Back with strap.

The breeches over-all look quite short which would suggest a shorter man – breeches very rarely come above the knee with any distinctions.

In the image opposite you can see how the placket forms the pocket mouth aswell. This gets fastened at the end by a button which serves of holding down the pocket and the method of opening the breeches.

Button Fly Detail

Button Fly Breeches were the most standard method of closure for the early part of the 18th Century – we’ve not done enough research to find out if all of the Button Fly fronts have this kind of false ‘Split Fall’ look to it or if this is a blend between Button Flys and Split Falls but the pocket opening in the blending period between the 2 styles. We’ll tell you more when we look into it more!

These breeches are also an interesting weave of silk – check out the green floral and stripe!

Side View – Buttoned Knee Details

You can see from this image how high the buttons come from the knee opening! If you imagine, even if he was very short, the  distance between end of button opening and the bottom of the Fly. It’s quite fascinating!
