V&A French c.1760s Sack Back Gown
Did you know this was the very first gown we ever attempted to properly replicate. This was before the days of our stitch reports but it was the first proper pattern we’d taken off a
gown in a museum and our photos and video notes supplied the info we needed to recreate it. It was probably the start of us realising we needed stitch reports!
Completely based on a gown found in the V&A stores, this sack back gown is completely handsewn.
The original didn’t have a petticoat however – so that’s the one addition we made up. 🙂 We also got the number of swirls wrong on the stomacher – if I remember right there should be one more curvy bit!
